As my wife keeps reminding me, we are not “stuck at home,” we are “safe at home” now that everything is closed or cancelled. And by everything, I mean everything for kids, schools, camps, sports programs, dance, karate, museums, etc. Finding ways to engage kids and keep them entertained while limiting screen time during these times can be a challenge.
Thankfully, there are a great number of resources popping up to offer ideas. One of the best I’ve come across is from our partner at Nature’s Bakery, who launched a Snack Sized Adventures campaign aimed to facilitate togetherness and bonding as a family. They’ve compiled an online resource of Snack-Sized Adventures (snacks...get it?) through a brand new micro-site, appropriately named WhatOnEarthShouldIDoWithMyKids.com. The online activity generator has over 100 family-friendly ideas that aim to provide parents with a sigh of relief for long days spent indoors.
And before I dive into the dozens of ideas, I have to point out that the micro-site is beautifully designed. It’s laid out like a virtual book where you can “flip” the page to see the next activity, with an option to “like” or “dislike” ideas to better customize your experience. There are even suggestions for Nature’s Bakery snacks to enjoy during the activities such as Oatmeal Crumble Bars, Brownie Bars and of course, the classic Whole Wheat & Gluten Free Fig Bars. Nature’s Bakery products are not only delicious, but also nutritious, made with wholesome ingredients so it’s no wonder these are my daughters’ go-to snacks these days.
The adventures they share range from simple, like creating leaf rubbings with paper and crayon, to a bit more involved, like setting up a “laser maze” out of crepe paper ribbons. Each snack sized adventure is coded with symbols that tell moms and dads the timing of the adventure, if the activity takes place indoors or outdoors, how messy the activity might be, and how much involvement is needed. Many of the adventures are pulled from other resources with links that are shared, which can open up a whole new vein of possible activities. You can check out the most popular adventures as ranked by fellow parents as well as save activities into your favorites, if your little ones want to do a certain activity again.
While exploring the site, Nature’s Bakery encourages families to submit their own Snack Sized Adventures on the microsite for a chance to win a month’s worth of free snacks. You can also share a photo of your family adventures on Instagram using #NaturesBakery and #SnackSizedAdventures for the chance to win fun prizes and snacks.
Check out the link, bookmark the page and next time your kid asks, “What are we going to do today?” make this your first stop. And when they want a snack, make Nature’s Bakery your first choice.
